It’s been a slow news day today, not in terms of development but lots of teams have headed off for their catch up rotation on the mountain so Pete and I have been lounging about and getting our administration in order without the interruption of coffee orders…..

Sadly the damaged communications antennas has not been fixed so we are very much relying on the BGAN to get news back home.

During this lazing about we have been able to pick the brains of those who have influence around the base camp and also further afield.

Pete and I have spent several hours understanding the community needs in the mountain areas and also Pakistan as a whole. Pete has shared some great ideas that will be great for our legacy projects and also for our future here.

Having shared some future plans with Ateef our Pakistani liaison officer we can see some real benefits to be had with spending time and resources with our HAPs.
  1. Education
  2. Technical ability
  3. Expectations
These 3 strains will be the key areas what we hope to leave behind and build on for future years.
We have such a great resource here at base camp, 5 really good men who are from smaller villages who are directly impacted by tourism and mountaineering. With our broken Pakistani/British communication we spoke for a few hours about what is needed and very much to our surprise the answer was never “money”.

Pete and I look forward to developing this more when we have a successful ascent under our belt.
